The 415 Amateur Radio Club of Crystal Lake, IL will celebrate its 8th Anniversary by participating in the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) 2025 Field Day exercise. The public is invited to attend and participate in this demonstration of amateur โHamโ radio where multiple radio stations will be operating between 1pm Saturday, June 28th and 1pm Sunday, June 29th at 3208 Bay Road, Crystal Lake, IL. Admission is free.
The 415 Amateur Radio Club is a local group of licensed amateur radio operators whose goal is to further the hobby of amateur radio, while having fun. Visitors at Field Day will observe a variety of communications using voice, Morse code, and digital techniques. An amateur radio station capable of communicating with orbiting satellites and the International Space Station (ISS) will also be in operation. In addition, a GOTA (Get On The Air) station is a special part of Field Day designed to let newcomers and inactive hams get on the radio with the guidance of an experienced operator. Whether youโre licensed or not, you can sit down, talk on the air, and experience the excitement of ham radio in a fun, supervised setting.
Since 1933, ham radio operators across North America have established temporary ham radio stations during Field Day to showcase the science and skill of Amateur Radio. Field Day demonstrates ham radioโs ability to work reliably under any conditions from almost any location and create an independent communications network to provide emergency communications within our local communities as well as disaster relief throughout the United States. These abilities are critical when there is a loss of internet access or cell phone communications. Amateur radio operators provide public service communications for weather spotting, rallies, and other community events, as well as educational activities for young people and others interested in amateur radio.
